I’ve always been very interested in the world of work and careers. This stems from watching my parents live a life unfulfilled in their own careers, but that is a story for a different time. True to my Capricorn nature, I got my first paid job babysitting around 11 years old and never stopped working after that. In fact, I have been so obsessed with career-related topics, that I decided to pursue a master’s degree specializing in Career Counseling. It was around this time, that I also decided to dedicate myself to a deeper understanding of Astrology and using it with clients. Enter Vocational Astrology.
If you’re familiar with the natal chart, then you know that it can be used as a map, mirror, and personal calendar. Both a tool for self-reflection, as well as a navigation system.
Too often, folks make decisions about their careers based on other people’s ideals and opinions. In fact, I’ve spent time with numerous clients discovering how to make career transitions because they didn’t take the time to explore their own sense of ‘purpose’ and meaning in life. This is where astrology as a tool for self-reflection can be useful.
Solutions and suggestions are embedded within the horoscope, not within me as the astrologer. My role is to facilitate a dialogue between the individual and their horoscope, so that some of the vocational pathways may be acknowledged, brought to light and considered.
Vocational astrology focuses on parts of the natal chart that are most relevant to someone’s work and career. Not only as a tool of self-reflection for career exploration but also as a map and a calendar. When could someone consider changing jobs? When will they find the most luck in their career? When is the best time to make a career transition?
As Brian Clark said, the natal chart merely contains suggestions, and without knowing the full context of your life, it may not be effective. Or, it could feel inspiring, but lacking in practical steps forward. This is where I like to use my background in Career Counseling to help connect the dots from the insight gleaned from the natal chart, and practical and tangible steps forward.
